Do you know anyone who shares your passion? – week 3
by vocabrox on Sep.23, 2011, under Uncategorized
Hello again!
This week’s question is “Do you know anyone who shares your passion?”
Well, as you saw before, I have two passions: One, VOCABULARY…how’d you get to this blog if you didn’t know that…If you didn’t understand that, it means look at the link! So, in response to the question, I don’t believe anyone in my school has a passion for vocabulary…or as big of a passion as I do. But, I do know two people outside of school who do!
As for math, I know lots of people in our school who have a passion for math, other than me! Go look at MathMonster’s blog: livinginthemathworld.edublogs.org; also, doobav314′s blog and mathnerd314′s blog….Yes..
Anyhow, I finished reading The Road to Memphis by Mildred D. Taylor! It was a great book. The whole trilogy is quite impressive. I am in love with the books. However, compared with the previous two books, this book was extremely romantic…
That is the picture I will be using. Again, copyright link . http://www.overstock.com/Books-Movies-Music-Games/Let-the-Circle-Be-Unbroken/758340/product.html
I am NOT stealing this picture! Oh, so today during math class, I heard the wind whistling…spooky!
Also, I have a latin quiz today. I’m extremely nervous! ..
Alright, well goodbye…..
Oh wait, I have to add a link..which I already did so go to MathMonster’s blog!
Alright, goodbye.
Second post in one day…

Hello world.
It’s amazing, I know. This is my second post in one day, but I merely am posting this to say that I have been changing my background very often. Well, I’m just trying to see which theme fits my blog and my personality the best. Also, I have decided to use proper grammar in all my posts…starting from this one!
Good Bye and Good Day

Passion
by vocabrox on Sep.16, 2011, under Uncategorized
I realized that vocab was my passion about four years ago, because I was preparing for a vocabulary competition. I realized, only then, that vocabulary is very interesting. It comes from so many different languages and every word is very interesting. I realized that math was my passion a few years ago, because solving math is very interesting.
So, guys guess what! I’m 200th in line for Son of Neptune! Yay
. From 284 to 200 in one week? That’s good! Okay, I have to post a link so everyone who is a math nerd go to www.artofproblemsolving.com
It’s the most amazing site in the world. I love it so much.
Okay, picture time!
Okay my picture is from: http://www.paulabliss.com/math.htm
All credits to that website. I’m not stealing it!!
I also enjoy reading books, if you haven’t noticed yet. I love reading. I’m in the process of reading Let the Circle Be Unbroken by Mildred Taylor. It is THE BEST BOOK I have read!! It is so good. I cannot put it down. Unfortunately, I was reading it in the car, and after reading for 45 minutes, and I was forced to put it down. I was sad. But, I am almost done with it! I’m on the 300th page. So excited. But, guess what! There’s another book. Yay!I love reading.
Yes well,
Goodbye!

Okay! Hi, I’m back. Yes, be thankful that I’m back. I know that you’re glad that I’m back. Anyway, I have to write about my passion. My passion is vocabulary…if you didn’t know that yet. It’s so interesting, all the different words. I also really enjoy dancing and singing….oh and of course, MATH!! Vocabulary and math are both so interesting. Just think about it. You know that you like math. Math is so interesting, so many different types of problems and so many different ways to solve it. I also like vocabulary because it’s just so interesting, especially deriving words. I have lots of passions, but mainly math and vocab. GO HERE: http://rickriordan.com/home.aspx Okay, so anyway…Guess what! I’m so excited for The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan. I went to the library site, and I went and booked The Son of Neptune….and I was 284th in hold….!!!! But, last time, I booked The Throne of Fire by Rick Riordan, and I was 350th in hold, and I got it in 4 months…not too long considering 349 other people read itbefore I did. Anyhow, this has been interesting, I haven’t posted on here in a really long time. So, thank you for reading.. Good night -Vocabrox

Hello everyone

Okay, so today’s word is tittup.
Definition: To move in a lively manner often with an exaggerated action/movement.
Sentence:As the curtains part, the play’s main characters tittup to and fro across the stage . (Source: merriam-webster)
Origin: I really don’t know.
This is one of my favorite quotes by Thomas Edison: “Genius: one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.”
Get it?
So I can’t wait to read the Sea of Monsters and The Last Olympian in the Percy Jackson series. Unfortunately I reserved it from the library and it still hasn’t come out
.
I can’t wait till the Lost Hero comes out and I also want to read the DemiGod files.
We just had a quiz on Greek, last class. It’s Latin and Greek. The quiz was on the greek alphabet. We had to write it in capital and lower case letters. That was fun, because we spent like 30 minutes preparing for the quiz, so most of us were ready.
For some reason, I only have time to post one word per week or two words. Otherwise, I just post random stuff.
Okay, I’ll give you a riddle. (continue reading…)
1 word
by vocabrox on Sep.26, 2010, under Uncategorized
Your word is Phatic:
Definition: of, relating to, or being speech used for social or emotive purposes rather than for communicating information
Origin: Originally from Greek
I finally reserved the Sea of Monsters and the Lost Hero on Friday at the Library! Can’t wait.
More words..
by vocabrox on Sep.24, 2010, under Uncategorized
Hello everyone.
Logging back on to my world.
So like I’m posting one word today
.
The word is demeanor
It basically means manner or outward behavior
Sentence: The professor’s friendly and laid-back demeanor made him a favorite among the students.
(Source: merriam-webster)
Derivation: Comes from Latin
I’m too lazy to post another word, so like yea.
Anyway, I finished Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, and Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth over the weekend. They were really good books. So I liked Percy Jackson and the Lighting Thief better since it was the first book but I got confused that that was the last book (Sfalma (Greek) ) Yes, yes I know you can’t translate it that way Mathmonster. And, yes I know you want me to read the Sea of Monsters before the Lost Hero.
Okay, so I have to finish this post quickly so I might come and edit it and add in some more words, so if you’re sad that I didn’t post up more than one word, don’t worry (most of you probably aren’t sad) But, MathMonster, I did this in correct grammatical punctuation.
Signing off now…
My first words.
by vocabrox on Sep.17, 2010, under Uncategorized
This is going to be a very serious post:
Your first word is:
OBSTREPEROUS
Marked by unruly or aggressive noisiness: I like to remember the definition as : Unruly…
Anyway the etymology comes from: LATIN!
By the way, I will be posting Latin things as well.
Sentence: A room full of OBSTREPEROUS children
Next time I’m quizzing you on these words.
Wait..wanna know another word?
Your word is Potpourri
Definition: A mixture of different things
A synonym for it is Salmagundi
Sentence: A potpourri of vegetables
So far I’ve posted 2 words. I will be mosting more in my later posts. Oh nevermind, I have some more time!
The word is Auxiliary
Definition (I memorized it like this): Subordinate
Sentence: The auxiliary player in our car can play music from ipod nano’s and mp3 players.
Okay, I still have more time, so I will post another word (which you probably were looking forward to, I hope)
Your word is hector
Definition is : A bully
Origin: Latin from Greek
Sentence (source from merriam-webster): a small-town hector with no job and lots of time on his hands
Most probably last word and 5th word!
Your word is ZENITH
Definition: Top point or peak
Sentence: Don’t feel like making one..oh well: The zenith of the mountain was _______…
I didn’t complete that sentence, because the task for you is for you to fill that in!
I know I still have more time, but I really don’t feel like typing up another word, so I will post random stuff, I guess.
So recently, I just finished the Titan’s Curse from the Percy Jackson Series. I really liked it (If that was going to be your question just don’t ask okay?) Anyway, I started the Battle of the Labyrinth. It’s a good book and I can’t put it down, but I’m forced to..sadly.
More random stuff, we had a dance competition last weekend, I think. Now, here’s your test, I guess. You have to find out what place we got. *Hint*: look at someone else’s blog.
Oh..It’s time to go. I have to go! Sorry..Bye people.
~VocabRox
P.S: i just spent 10 minutes of my time editing this, because my friend wanted me to correct all the spelling, so I’m doing this for her sake. Anyway, you owe me a thank you MathMonster, haha. Yes..Oops maybe I shouldn’t have said that….
My first Post
by vocabrox on Sep.10, 2010, under Uncategorized
Hello. I am VocabRox. This blog is about Words Around the World. I will probably doing 10-15 words per week from all different languages. There’s going to be definitions, the origin, and the etymology. Occasionaly, I will put the use of a word in a sentence. That’s basically all this blog is going to be about. As I continue my blog, I might post Random things and sometimes I’ll post more stuff about what’s happening, after the words of course
.
